The Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter of RWTO (Retired Women Teachers of Ontario) offers an opportunity for members with an interest in all forms of writing to share their written work, ideas, thoughts, and experiences related to writing in a group that meets once a month in west Hamilton. In her second year as group coordinator, past president of Hamilton-Wentworth RWTO, Hope Leon, herself an accomplished writer, leads the group with enthusiasm and passion. Ms. Leon arranges for guest writers of all genres to speak to the group. On Friday, January 19th, 2018, SIDEBURNS Magazine was invited to give a talk to the group on the topics of blogging and operating an online magazine. It was such a pleasure presenting to a wonderful group who actively engaged in the presentation by asking germane questions and sharing their knowledge and experiences in writing. Some members of the group also shared their own Elvis and ETA (Elvis Tribute Artist) stories, which I encouraged them to send to be posted on SIDEBURNS. For a second time in recent years, ETAs have been asked to entertain at functions hosted by retired teachers. ETA Matt Cage as Elvis, and ETA Brent Freeman as Buddy Holly, entertained at an RTO (Retired Teachers of Ontario) event. This coming February, the Hamilton chapter of RWTO has asked entertainer Brad Boland to perform his Elvis show at their annual luncheon.*
Thank you very much, Hope, for the invitation to present to your writing group. And thank you to the group for making Lori-Anne and me feel so welcome. Best regards, Carolyn.
*If RWTO or RTO members have stories or photos from these two ETA events, I would be happy to post them on SIDEBURNS Magazine. Please send them along to sideburnsmagazine@gmail.com. Thank you, Lori-Anne, for providing the photos that appear in the grid above. Cheers! C.M.
